Ms. Judy Bell
Colorado Springs, CO

For her lifelong commitment to golf, Bell earned a well-deserved place in the World Golf Hall of Fame through the Lifetime Achievement category.  Best remembered as the first female president of the United States Golf Association in its 100-plus-year history, she also had a stellar playing career. “Golf is for everyone regardless of race, color or physical handicaps."  Judy has taken a leadership role in Golf 20/20 and The First Tee initiatives. "Access is important. What would make me happy would be to look at this game down the road and see that the opportunity is in place for everyone who wants to play the game and learn about it and have affordable access."


Dr. Thomas J.
“Doc”Dorsey
Orlando, FL

Dorsey has been teaching golf and mentoring disadvantaged Orlando youths since 1991, six years before the World Golf Foundation started The First Tee to promote golf as a positive influence for character development and teaching life-enhancing values to economically-disadvantaged children. Dorsey has operated a private dentistry practice in Orlando since 1975. He has devoted his spare time to introducing the game of golf to minority children through the nonprofit organization he founded, the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association (OMYGA), in cooperation with the City of Orlando.


Mr. Al Green
Fort Pierce, FL

A PGA Class A member since 1971, Al Green was the first African American to earn his card in the Mid-Atlantic Section of the PGA.  He has served as the Head Golf Pro at the Eisenhower GC in Annapolis, Maryland, the Director of Golf for the Princess Hotel & Casino in the Grand Bahamas and Head Pro at the historic Langston Golf Club in Washington D.C.  Al has played in 3 US Opens including the famed Merion and Hazeltine courses.  He currently assists other African American PGA Class A professionals in conducting clinics for major African American organizations at their conferences and conventions.


The Western States Golf Association (WSGA) was founded in 1954 and has been incorporated since 1972 in the state of California as a non-profit tax exempt corporation. The organization’s purpose is “To consolidate Black Organized Golf Clubs located in the Western United States under one umbrella.” WSGA currently consists of 29 member golf clubs with over 1500 members in six states including Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

The Late
Ms. Althea Gibson
Newark, NJ

A trailblazing athlete in two sports, she became the first African American to win tennis championships at Grand Slam tournaments such as Wimbledon, the French Open, the Australian and the U.S. Open in the late 1950s.  Since there was no professional tennis tour in those days, Gibson turned to the pro golf tour becoming the first African American female to compete on the LPGA tour.  She played in over 100 tournaments. After her competitive career, Ms. Gibson worked as a tennis teaching pro.
